Specialized Endodontics
Sometimes a nonsurgical root canal procedure on its own will not save your tooth and your Endodontist will recommend surgery.
WHY WOULD I NEED ENDODONTIC SURGERY:
Surgery may save your tooth is a variety of situations:
*If you have persistent symptoms but nothing can be seen on your x-ray. Your tooth may have a tiny fracture or canal that canot be detected. In surgery, your Endodontist can examine the entire root to fine the problem and provide treatment.
*In some cases calcium make a canal too narrow for the instruments that is used in non-surgical root canal treatments. This is called "calcification" and in surgery your specialist can clean and seal the remainder of the canal.
*Teeth that had root canal treatment can last a life time. But in some cases the tooth may not heal completely or get infected. This can cause pain and discomfort. Only surgery may help save that tooth.
*Specialized surgery can also treat damaged root surfaces or the surrounding bone of infected teeth.
WILL THE PROCEDURE HURT?:
Your specialist will make use of local anesthetics to make the surgery as confortable as possible. It is also normal to have some swelling while the incision heals. Appropriate pain medication will be recommended by your doctor to help with pain and discomfort. Your Endodontist will also give you proper post-surgery instructions to follow. (how to clean, eat ect.)
If you have any questions , don't hessitate to contact your doctor.
AFTER SURGERY:
Your Surgeon will discuss all the after care that you will need to follow.
